alternative to linhof heavy duty pro tripod

a little while ago, i got a used linhof levelling head (003668) for my kardan lt. the base is 90mm in diameter. i think it's designed to go on the linhof heavy duty pro tripod (003323), which lists for £865 at linhofstudio.com. does anybody know of a cheaper alternative with a 90mm base mount?

I think the flat plate on my 5-series Gitzo is around that size. I'm traveling at the moment with a smaller tripod, but I can measure it when I get home, if no one else can confirm in the interim.

Ries has a series with a 4" crown, which is a bit more than 90mm.

The crown size on the leg set doesn't absolutely have to be the same size as the tripod base, though of course it's more stable if the crown is the same size or larger.

Gitzo n. 5 and Berlabach http://www.berlebach.de/e_index.php? Report System and some UNI System models are alternative to expensive Linhof tripods. But beware: not ALL UNI models !! Some have a plate diameter of 160mm and probably your 003668 head doesn't work with the large plate of these UNi models.

How heavy do you want your tripod be ?
The 3668 is a good and pretty universal head that can be used on many tripods.
Cheaper than Linhoff ? Look what others have, like Manfrotto.
The base of the 3668 should come close to its mounting-point, but a centimeter smaller would do no harm.

I still use its bigger brother with a Gitzo Studex Performance to carry my Sinar P2 8x10

i was able to confirm that gitzo 5 series tripods have a 4'' (~100mm) base mount. i'm assuming 4 series is the same, because they have interchangeable columns and stuff.

    am i right in assuming that the 3 series has a 3'' base mount, 2 series a 2'', 1 series a 1''?
