Which tripod for Mark VII?

Hello everybody,

I'm looking for a tripod for a MPP MARK VIII.

I was thinking on a Manfrotto 55proB, or 58B, with a manfrotto 410 head. Do you think this is a suitable combination?

It is, but are you buying new or second-hand. Tripods are grossly over-priced for what they are.

I'm looking for a tripod for a MPP MARK VIII.

I have a slightly earlier MPP model (an S92), and use a Giottos MTL8361B - Only once have I bothered with a separate head, most of the time the "built-in head" has proved sufficient. Being a three section tripod, it isn't the most compact available, but it is quite sturdy.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with a geared column - It is a possible source of failure, and if you get dirt in the mechanism, a bitch to clean.

I have the 055 with the 410 and love it.
The 410 is certainly not too heavy for the 055 and is one of the best heads I ever had, realy great for architecture and well suited upto a RB67 or not too heavy 4x5 TC.

Pablo, I have both of those tripods and an MPP Mk VIII. The 055 with 410 geared head is fine for the MPP and much lighter than the 058 Triaut. I use the 058 Triaut for my 8x10 monorail with a 229 Pan & Tilt head and also for studio portraits with my Mamiya RZ 67 on a dolly. They are both very well made tripods. Also consider the 029 head for which ever tripod that you choose.

Another vote for the 055. I have a 055ProXB paired with a 808RC4 head - pretty heavy duty, but it doesn't move with my MPP Mark VI. At some point I may end up getting a lighter head for use with my smaller cameras, although I've got used to the weight now
