    Sekonic L-778 Lens Shade??

    Howdy All!!

I didn't know where to post this question... hope it's okay here.

I just bought a used Sekonic L-778 for a good price off of craigslist and it seems to be in great shape... received it this morning.

I'd like a lens shade but I don't know what fits it. Will the one made for the L-558 fit properly? Neither Sekonic nor does its distributors advertise a shade to fit.

    Thanks In Advance,
    Mike

I don't know for sure if the shade from the 558 will fit the 758 (isn't that want you meant???), but I'll bet it does. The Sekonic shade is a bit expensive so I ended up buying a much mroe affordable generic shade. It works as well as I expect the "real" shade works. I think I ordered it from B&H... but can't remember. The 778 manual should say what the thread size is; have you checked that?

Thanks, Brian!! I'd REALLY like to know what shade you bought. The L-778 manual makes no reference to a shade of any size. BTW, if I ever offended you I'm truly sorry. My brain is back-firing these days!!

thought of using a piece of thin wall pvc pipe painted matte black? I've seen people do that with other spot meters, and I was thinking of doing that with my 778.

Yes it does... on page 58 (I think) under accesssories. What they offer is a 30.5 MM to 40.5 mm adapter, that functions as a lens shade. It is the same for 778 as 558... I just looked in the manuals. Waht I bought was just a 30.5 foldable rubber shade:

The manual, BTW, only mentions it in one place, accessories. Not very prominent. Se Pg. 52:

    Hi Dan,

Yes, among other options such as a curled piece of black felt glued to thin carboard and wrapped around the lens but if the one made for the 558 fits I'd rather have the more eloquent soution.

    Mike,

The "real deal" is elegant, but the generic solution is really inexpensive. $6 vs $30.

    The "real deal":

p.s. Once you get your head wrapped around that meter I think you'll be very happy. It has so much capability and flexibility. Although big and heavy I love mine!
