Female Cable Release? Adapter?

I have an Alphax shutter that has a cable release socket with threads on the outside and inside. The inside threads look like they would be for a normal cable release but mine don't want to thread in very well. It kind of looks like the first couple of threads are stripped on the shutter where it screws on.

So I would like to find either a cable release that has a female attachment so it will screw on the outside or an adapter that will allow a normal cable release to screw into it and then on the outside.

Anyone know what I am talking about and use something like this? I would really appreciate any pointers to where I could buy one or if you happen to have an extra... Here is a photo to show you what I am talking about.

I used to own an adapter that allowed a cable release to be used on an older barnack Leica, like a IIIa or IIIf. One would unscrew a collar that was around the shutter button and then an adapter that had female threads would thread on allowing a cable release to be screwed in. Now those are way too big but something similar would be perfect.

Well after no luck searching I used a dremel to grind down a portion of the cable release I had and it grabbed some threads. So I guess I am set. I would still like a more elegant and sturdy solution so if someone knows where to get a cable release with a female attachment on the end or an adapter that would do the same thing I would love to hear from you. Thanks!

The only female adaptors I know of have threads which are complementary to the `standard´ male one.
They are used as angle-connector or cable-extension (and thus are not even adaptors in actual meaning).

Well, I guess there are some benefits to standardization. I've been screwing around with this stuff for over forty years & don't remember ever having seen a cable release with a female attachment. I've seen shutters like yours before & never thought about it. Forest & tree syndrome I guess.
Anyway, I've got a cable release with straight threads on it. If the internal threads on the shutter are straight, you're welcome to it.

John are you saying that the actual threaded portion on the cable release is a straight threads vs angled like they normally are? If so that would probably work as that is basically what I had to do was grind down the top portion of the threads as it was not allowing it to go in far enough to grab the threads that are there. Well John is going to hook me up with a suitable cable release, thanks John! I also know what you were speaking of AgX, they are just meant for use as an extension so a cable release can be screwed on to a lens on a recessed lens board where it is hard to get the straight release to thread on. You just leave the angled adapter thing attached so it is easy when you use the lens. They do have those at BHPhoto. Alphax must have made a proprietary type of cable release that had a female end on it that are long since gone now. Anyway thanks to you all for your help, like all of my problems this one has been fixed by the APUG team! Goooo APUG! Actually I am just kidding around but I do love APUG, ask a question and someone, somewhere has run into the same problem or has a fix for yours, gotta love it!

I've got an Alphax. What you need is a long throw cable release like a Gepe and cram it up in there---it will engage the threads. Same thing with the Betax shutters.

Wollensak did have cables that are straight male and also had straight female cables. I picked one up on the bay some years back. Keep a search on cables there and one will turn up.

This type of cable is the same of the old Nikon F2.
Maybe you will find in a Nikon shop.

It's much smaller than the Nikon/Leica/Yashica tip you're referring to. It looks to be about a #8 or 10 screw size.
