How much is Rodenstock Sinaron S 150mm and 210mm worth?

    Dear all,

As I venture into the world of large format photography, I am here to seek your advice.

I have come across a complete set up but no idea how much I should offer to make it reasonable in today's market.

It's a Sinar F1 kit with magnifying hood, and 3 lenses.

135mm Calumet Caltar S (made in Germany)
    150mm Rodenstock Sinaron S
    210mm Rodenstock Sinaron S

I was told they are all in perfect conditions, and I'm going over to see the kit tomorrow, with the hope that I could make a deal.

Can anyone advise on their current market worth?

    Many thanks!

    Gu

Thanks for the link, but I never rely on eBay due to price fluctuation being too wide, KEH doesn't have any that I'd like to know, either.

    A rough estimate would be;

$350-$400 for the F1 with hood (if it's the reflex)
$200-$250 for each of the three lenses

I'd offer $1000 maximum only if there were a bunch of extra goodies included--rails, bag bellows, nice case, holders, film, etc. Maybe start with an offer of 500 pounds and see what happens.

    Welcome to APUG.

UK prices are significantly higher than the US, and there's even more fluctuation. Best way to buy lenses is subscribe here and place wanted adverts. One downside to buying from the US is you may end up paying Import Duty and VAT on the lenses and the postage that can add over 25%.

At the moment you should be able to get any of those lenses or equivalent for somewhere around £150 each.

The 135mm Caltar S is a Rodenstock Sironar, the later S II is a Symmar S, £150 or less is a fair price (I can get one for that right now).

The Sinarons are also Sironars (unless that's your typo ), they are all excellent lenses.

So if these are selling in a complete kit I'd expect to pay little bit less, with a Sinar F1 and roll film back, case, reflex viewer I'd say that £640 would be a very fair price, particularly if there's a set of bag bellows etc as well

Thank you for the informative reply, Ian.

I will double check tomorrow to see which version they are, hopefully it was my typo

    Exciting times!

Sinar selected lenses are Sinaron's so it's not a typo. See if they are Multi-Coated, I've PM'ed you.
