This has been bugging me for a while....

Someone asked me about the sync plug on my Hassey. I know that everyone calls in a PC terminal or a PC plug, etc... What does the acronym "PC" mean?

I can't remember the exact acronym, but I think two companies got together to standardize the connection (decades ago), and the the P stood for one company, who's name I forget, and the same with the C.

Maybe some else will know the whole story.

Thanks David! A photography teacher in HS once told me it stood for "poor connection" and that has stuck with me ever since.

    Always carry three cables!

Some old large format shutters have a bipole sync connection, which is just two posts on the side of the shutter, and if you have a flash (like Norman) that uses an H-type (household) sync, you can use an electric shaver cord as a sync cable. While I'm sure there have been a few strobes, and perhaps a few photographers, blown up by H-sync cables being plugged into household electric sockets, wouldn't it be great if you could just go into any hardware store and get a sync cable? Maybe that's why Weegee always looked so rumpled and unshaven.

I think it's redneck for "Plug it Chere"

The way I heard it, it stands for "patch cord", although this does not diminish anyone's right to make up a more interesting explanation!

No, no. It's gotta be "polarity correctness".
