    Gallery/portfolio on website

    Hi there

I am about to build my photography website, and want to put my photos on it (mandatory on photographic site ).
But I would like to be able to "post" pictures frequently, and would like to know if you have some info on some ready-made systems for this. I am not keen on having to put them in there manually as it consumes a lot of time, I am keen on the idea of having to compile the whole gallery every time I have a new picture to add (like the Photoshop-style galleries) and I want to be able to design the look of the gallery, so it matches the other pages on my site.

Please post links to ready-made systems I want to give it a chance before starting out to make it myself

    Greetings Morten

It depends on what kind of server your website will be hosted.
If it's a Windooz server, you'd better stick to asp scripts
If it's an Apache-like server, php is the best you can get.

Scripts for uploading pictures or other kind of documents require write access on the server. Be sure your host allows you do CHMOD on folders.
Some basic security to protect the upload pages would come in handy.

If you don't understand a word of this, read the manuals of the scripts very thourough!

The best website for finding ready-made scripts is www.hotscripts.com (I'm not affiliated in any way)
There's one gallery script I like particularly: http://coppermine.sf.net/

    Have fun.

I am on Linux Apache server with PHP and MySQL and I am somewhat into using these techologies. I have write access to the server. I will give Hotscripts a try.

    Thanks!

I've seen a lot of people use Coppermine, there's also one just called Gallery. I use a system called Pictorialis II, it's a custom job made out of Word Press blogging software. There are lots of them out there, thats all I can think of right now.

It's Windows, not Windooz. I make my living programming Windows and I don't appreciate the term.

There are several good programs for this; Microsoft FrontPage, Macromedia Dreamweaver, even Photoshop CS has good tools. It all depends on what OS you want to use. FWIW, most web hosting services, including those using Apache, provide FrontPage extensions, which makes publishing from FrontPage pretty easy.

I am a professional programmer, so my site is custom. I use ASP.NET with a Microsoft SQL Server 2000 backend.
