    It's very rare for a rear element to get scratched, that's why your finding difficulty finding anything. If it does happen lenses get retired

    There is a box full of random old 50mm, 135mm, and 80-200mm off-brand lenses (think JC Penney, seriously!) at Biggs Camera here in Charlotte... I'm tempted to go buy a few, scratch them up to varying degrees, and post the results...

    At least I know that dirty lenses do stil work well:

    My Zuiko 50mm f1.8 has some strange thing close to the center of the lens and it does nothing to image quality. It also seems to have some spots on the coating of the rear element, not a problem.

    I've heard that rear element scratches are worse than front; but mine are very good.
