I just wanted to let everyone know that I received delivery of one of Alex's print that I bought on eBay, ''Yates Center Elevator'' an 8x10 print on AZO. I can honestly tell you that this is one of the finest prints that I have ever seen. I don't say that lightly. I have a large collection of prints by some of the greats and I have seen many many original prints from others. This print from Alex surpasses many in my collection in terms of beauty and quality of the image. The print contains a full range of tones. There is great detail throughout - the highlights are simply perfect and ther subtle shadow details can't be believed. I can only think of EW prints when I look at this print - EW got these great highlights - very unlike AA in that they weren't these pure brilliant whites but were well contained within the scale of the paper.

I highly recommend this image to anyone who appreciates the fine print.

    -Mike

P.S. Alex, I would appreciate any details on technical info you can provide. Like, did you develop this in Amidol, what grade AZO, how long was it developed. What about the density range of the negative - did you make the negative for AZO or pt\pd printing?

Mike, that's extremely kind praise. Thank you very much. I'm not sure I'm that worthy, but that's just me. I'm glad you like the print. Here's the
    details.

It was taken on February 14, 2004, a beautiful, clear Sunday morning, about
    10:30 am.

I used a standard #8 yellow filter to darken the sky.

Film was J&C Classic Pan 200, 8x10. It was developed by inspection in ABC
    Pyro 1:1:1:7.

Paper: Azo Grade 2. Your print was developed in a split bath - Agfa Neutol
WA for 30 seconds, water bath for 10 seconds, PPPD pyro catechol for 50
seconds. If I use amidol, its amidol for 1 minute, water bath for 1 minute.

The bottom 1/3 is burned in about 30% over the base exposure.

I don't have a densitometer so all I can say is that I exposed the negative
for a Azo. But actually, I exposed it enough that it would probably work
for pt/pd. For several months last year, I was using my 35mm with its zoom
lens as a pseudo spot meter. What I didn't realize for a while is that
zooming the lens up to 200 mm was changing the exposure, about 3 stops over what was necessary. This negative is still highly printable but there was a series I took later that were not (far too dense) - that's when I realized how I was goofing up. Live and Learn!

Once again, thanks for the high praise. I'm very grateful.

I have to say that I agree with Mike.

I purchased this print too, and it is a truly beautiful print.

    Nice work Alex.

Thank you Jim. I'm glad you like the print.

OK, time for Shameless Plug. There are 3 more Yates Center Elevator prints available while its in the first price tier. Print #5 is currently posted on E-bay. After these three, the price will go up.
