Okay, a little more information--3.25x4" is the U.S. standard lantern slide format. Lantern slides were sold in this size as were masks for various film and plate formats. The slides were printed on glass plates, and the mask was held in place by a cover glass.

Does this mean the Beseler Slide King will NOT project a 4x5 tranny?

No, it will not project 4x5" (and I don't think there's a larger version). I've been reading around, and I think Noblex made or perhaps still makes a projector for their 6x12cm format, and that may do 4x5".

My Slide King is on its way and should be here tomorrow. I checked the weight and it's also shipped at 40 lbs! Hopefully I will be able to tinker around with it this weekend.

Thank you for all the info.

I've ordered a 10" lens and a carrier for 2-1/4" square slides from Bill Riggins who bought the 11 Slide Kings. He's apparently a dealer in AV equipment who is local to the seller, so he could pick them up himself. His prices are reasonable, and he seems friendly and helpful. If you need parts, e-mail him at tobill@gmail.com.

My hope is that the smaller carrier will take some more standard size slide mounts, and I can avoid the issue of custom mounts altogether.

I've also found a few sources for bulbs. The Slide King takes the CZX 500 W and DDB 750 W lamp. Best prices I found were around $25 at a place called Pureland Supply. Mine came with a DDB, but I'm not projecting that big, so I might put in a smaller bulb.

I finally got around to the Slide King today. It's in very good condition - cosmetically and functionally. Everything is as David described - which figures since these two seem to be the same thing. The one I got came with a 12.5" E.F. Series III lens and this seems adequate for my present purposes. However, the lens has a little dust inside, and a small air bubble!

The projector came with two DDB 750W bulbs - one in the holder and a spare. The slide carrier holds 3.25"x4" mounts. The main task now is to get slide mounts in this size, or get a different slide carrier.

Please let me know if the shorter lens and the 2-1/4" square slides work out for you.

The 10" lens is definitely an improvement over the 15.5" for viewing in a small room.

The 2-1/4" holder I have seems to have been modified for 85mm square mounts (Gepe 6x7 mounts), but the gate is still sized for 6x6, I think. I'll try a couple of mounts, and see how it works, and maybe get another one that hasn't been modified.

Last week I got a bunch of lenses from eBay which included a Beseler 10" (E.F. Series III) and a couple of 6.5" (E.F.) lenses. The one that came with the projector is a 12.5". The 6.5" is too short and the projector does not focus even with minimum bellows extension. You can have one of the 6.5" if you want to play around with (not the cleanest lenses I have seen, though) - just let me know.

Did you have any luck with the mounts?

Sanjay--sure I'd be interested in experimenting with a 6.5" to see if it can work on my projector. Thanks for the offer. There were two models of Slide King, I think, so maybe it might work.

I haven't had a chance to go down to B&H to pick up the Gepe mounts to experiment with. I'll post here if I find anything interesting.
