    labels for gallery?

    Hi, anyone have any tips for labels for a small community gallery. We currently have one person make labels each month and as needed and it is not an efficient method. The artists call or email her with the info, then she prints out a sheet on heavy paper on an inkjet at home, then cuts them out by hand, then brings them to the gallery and we put them up with that sticky putty. I think the gallery should try one of those small label printers that can print single labels. Does anyone have any experience with them?

    I would ASSUME that you would have a need to keep the artists' names somewhere on a computer. Just standardize on a database like filemaker pro or something (even excel will work) - just for your own records. Set up a template that will match a standard avery label sheet and hit the 'print' button. You can usually configure it to include whatever information that you want on your label.

    look for the translucent avery address labels, the wall behind the image shows through, you can use a built in template in MS-word to format and print the info

    or they make removable glue sticks (think post-it glue stick) coat the back of your card and stick away

    Well, what I'm really asking is how easy would it be to print 1 or 2 labels, or say 5, without wasting the other 25-29 on the label sheet and so any of the 20 artists could do it?

    with ms-word template you fill out a table (you actually pick the avery part number and the custom table pops up)

    you can put the same information in every cell, or put different info in each.

    so, if you have used the first 4 or 5, you can leave those blank and consume the sheet over time

    Thanks for the tips. We have some clear labels. Now I just have to convince a few people to switch over to a new system.

    I have found another solution to labeling which does not involve labels. I make a sheet with titles, prices, and thumbnails of each image. I happen to use Filemaker Pro (as Sparky mentioned) to keep track of all of my images, and info about them, so this is just another layout in FM, but you could do this with MS Word. I make a layout that fits a letter size sheet, each image is a "row" with the thumbnail, title, and price, with my contact info at the bottom. I leave 100 sheets at the opening, and replace as necessary. Because each image is there on the sheet, no labels are necessary(galleries seem to like this), and visitors can take a sheet home with the image and price. Of course you need a minimal scanner to create the thumbnail.
