I work with high tech and sit in front of a computer everyday at work. I don't like sitting in front of my photoshop computer at home. I get zero satisfaction with a good looking image on my monitor. I get the satisfaction seeing the image appear in the dektol after putting the paper in the solution. In my heart, I'm still the same kid seeing it happen for the first time. This is why I added film to my quiver and joined the ranks of photographers who love living large.

perhaps you misunderstood me, I was only replying to professions

... and anyway I thought that this was an Analog users group, so I wasn't even thinking computer = photography when I wrote that :-)

Almost 3 years after joining, I've finally taken the time to look at all 43 pages of this thread...

...only to find that the "lazy quotable reply" was on page 1 all the time:

Yeah, me too. Some would say it's a telecommunications company, but hey, that's all just software and hardware (= computers) anyway, so why try to distinguish?

It's been great fun and very interesting to read through this thread; I can't resist a few more quotes and replies:

Birger, we have a common background, it would seem. Yep, a degree in chemistry, with organic chemistry as specialisation, so that's why it makes perfect sense that I'm writing and testing Java code nowadays.

Of course being paid an indecent amount of money (about $150/hour, 12 hours a day, 7 days a week) helps a bit.
Hm, remind me again why we have a Moderator Tip Jar during the holiday season...

database administration team leader for a retail property management company,
basically means I spend my time looking at computer screens and asking others to do the same!

Still, can't really complain: it pays the bills and leaves a bit spare to spend on my hobbies, of which this is one of the most expensive...

Been at this IT thing now for 35 years, time to start thinking about fishing.: as soon as the kids are educated and out of the house, I'm gonna go wet a line!

I'm an architectural photographer and currently in Beijing shooting some just completed hotels.
Crazy at present; but what a fantastic Olympics this city has put on!
The Egg and Birds Nest are wonderful sites to photograph, both during the day and at night - truly spectacular.

I guess I'm starting a career this week: I was just hired as a CEGEP teacher, which is a Quebec oddity school that sits between high school and university.

Congratulations Michel.

If I understand things correctly, there are strong similarities between CEGEPs in Quebec, and Community Colleges in BC. Community Colleges here offer both diploma programmes, and courses that are accepted for first year (and sometimes more) credit at universities.
