Maybe they got a good look at their neighbor...
I do use a digital device in my photographic pursuits when necessary.

Rainy, foggy and 6C atop the mountain this am. Got the LL Bean Gore-tex and an F5 loaded with HP5+ at the ready. Ready to hoof (three days left in this first first edition of 2014 vacation time, so going to make the best of it).
An assortment of F-series Nikons (F to F6, excluding the F4) with quite a few Nikkors, a pair of M6s with some Leitz glass, a pair of 500c/ms with a wide range of Zeiss optics and, just to help keep Duracell solvent, a D800.

    Favourite films: (1). KE ("Kodachrome Era"): 35mm: PKM25 and PKR64, HP5/Tri-X; 120: PKR64, PanF, FP4. (2). PKE ("Post-Kodachrome Era"): (a) 35mm: E100G, HP5 Plus/Tri-X and Delta 3200; (b) 120: E100G, PanF Plus, FP4 Plus, TMax 100.

    Average rainfall in Dec+Jan+Feb+March combined = 88.1mm
    Rainfall in last 48 hours = 92mm

    Average yearly rainfall 543.9mm.
Percentage of yearly rainfall in last 48 hours = 16.9%.

We'd already broken heatwave records, now we're breaking wet records in the same week...
An awful lot of electrons were terribly inconvenienced in the making of this post.

Why does it have to sleet on top of a foot of snow? Every step you take and crunch through, it about breaks your foot.

    Bad planning.

In southern California snow goes on the mountains for the skiers and snowboarders, ice is for drinks and skating rinks. Putting ice and snow on the roads and sidewalks is just plain stupid. This is not rocket science. This is a simple idea. Now act on it.

Been rainy and windy, cloudy and windy, and sunny and windy here in the Seattle area for the past week (usually on the same day, even). Two more fairly large storms to get through this weekend, then it's supposed to be showery and breezy for the next week or so. Seems mother nature is making up for lost time here in the Pacific Northwet.

I have always thought the weather on our planet is very dependent on sun spot activity. Does anyone have any thoughts on that?

You're exactly right. And radio propagation most certainly does.
