Default HWY 1 open

This morning's LA Times announced that Hwy 1 is now open through Big Sur.

That's cool. We get traffic updates on APUG. What's happening on the M25 tonight?

What's the temperature and traffic like though Redding? In all fairness I'm glad to hear that Highway 1 is open, it's one of the countries best views.

In Redding the daytime temp is very likely close to 110F.
Having Hwy 1 open is a very good thing. The small businesses along the route, especially in Big Sur, make a large percentage of their living during the summer months.

I'm really glad that the highway has re-opened, especially if it means that the fire danger has lessened a bit.

I wish all the best to all those in the affected area in California.

I must admit, however, that my original reaction was "The Trans-Canada Highway was closed??"

The Trans-Canada was closed in May when I tried to get to Vancouver via Golden and Revelstoke, BC. I think they have it open now though.

There were mudslides. In May there is still snow pack in the mountains, and with temperatures in the 30s (that'd be 90s to you Amurikans ) the snow was melting rapidly, causing mudslides.

As Ansel Adams said about Point Lobos, "It's simply a place with a capital "P"".

Glad to hear the road is open, and that special places, like Pont Lobos, are safe.
