What to see from SoCal to Phoenix, Arizona

Well... a few spots. I tell ya' the weather was awful in AZ - 103 degrees in the shade! Phoenicians have thick skin.

That's very moderate for July-many Phoenicians would call that a cool day. Was it cloudy? If it was clear that would be unseasonably cool. When it's clear it only starts getting a little uncomfortable when it's above 110 or so...

When I lived there, the temperature did not go below 90 degrees at night for a couple months!

Heck, it was 100 here today, which is fairly common for this time of year.

It was clear that day and they said we were lucky because it was getting cooler compared to the days before. Thanks for the wind farm recommendation and all the rest. I save them on my travel list and intend to visit them when I have more time and heading east again.

You could take a quick run through Joshua Tree via the southern gate. Or you could go check out all the cool aircraft junkyards in southern Arizona. But you'd better get a very early start.

After 90 I can't tell the difference - heat is my kryptonite . All I remember that anything metal was too hot to touch after a couple of minutes.

As everyone says, that trip isn't a casual stroll. I made it a few times when I was moving from San Clemente to Phoenix. It's farther than it looks on a map, and it's brutal country. And a large swath of it is reservation land that you cannot really go on. But there are a few places you can explore.

If you can make it a multi-day trip you'll do far better.
