That's great. I suppose someone here in China could do that. But I'll be nervous until i get my camera back in my hands. On the plus side, if they do ruin it, I have a stronger case for my money back. I guess that makes it a no lose situation.

Thanks again and good luck with your re-born GA645.

Got it back already! Works PERFECTLY. Finally, no more of that dial fiddling. I put this off for WAY too long.

    I am jealous!

I am going back to the shop this weekend. I hope this is a good idea. Here in China everything is makeshift. Someone with no training will think nothing about opening up a camera and trying to fix it. It may turn out that the guy who sold me this camera has training, but there is no way really know. I will try to talk to him long and hard before handing it over. If it is just a cleaning, perhaps it is a short job that I can just stand by and watch, to make sure nothing weird goes on.

Or maybe I'm just being paranoid.

    Glad your camera is fixed!

I lived in Kunming and Beijing back in 1996-2001. I know what you mean. Any chance you're coming to the states any time? or have a friend who is? They can send it to Frank.

Yeah, that is an option but will take a month or two to all shake out. I will consider that if the trip to the shop fails to fix the problem.

Good news! My GA645 is back in action! I took the camera back to the store, showed the guy the issue with the selector knob. He walked us upstairs to a repair shop (this is in a camera mall, 6 floors of camera stores) and ordered up a repair, on him. 20 minutes later the camera was back in my hand, with the knob fully functioning!

I'm very happy as you can imagine.

Yeah, i was prepped for a battle, but that turned out to be not necessary. I showed the guy the problem. He then pulled out a GA645W that he had in stock to see if that one did it too. It did not and so he immediately ordered up a repair. The whole transaction took under 5 mins. A good ending for sure.

Great news! You one-upped my awesome 10-day turn time from Frank! Glad to hear it all worked out. They probably opened it, blew on the circuits and closed it up again. But maybe that's all it takes to clear some dust in there.

Funny about him looking at a completely different camera first to "check". I guess if that one too had this common issue (still a flaw) he would have likely figured it's supposed to do that and immediately sent you on your way!

Ok, time for more shooting! Taking my newly repaired GA645 out this morning to shoot in a redwood forest while I await my wife after I drop her for a doctor appointment.
