Got myself a Yashica

10 years ago I gave my old Yashica to my daughter. Now, finally I am back. Just won a YashicaMat F (wanted a 124, but could not afford it) on ebay.

So, after I get it I have to dust off the 2 1/4 enlarger again. Sort of nice to be back in what I used to think was small format (pre Nikon days).

Nice. I love my 124. It's amazing how much they've increased in price, though.

Why, just this morning my 124G and I were having a grand old time playing in the snow up on the mountain! I just got done processing the negs and most of them look pretty good, even though I had a %^#@ reel malfunction (read - reel operator malfunction, of course ) Love that J&C Pro 100. Maybe now we'll load up some Velvia and go catch the sunset.

I just started playing around with my 124G.

I picked it up on Ebay during the summer, but only now have had the chance to get some film into it. I've heard nothing but positive things about the Yashicas, even though they may be considered the step child of the Rollei's.

Can't wait to see what develops...

Been shooting with my Yashicas for several years and have nothing but positive experiences. As far as being the poor cousin of the Rollei; don't forget that the basic function of the camera is to hold the film flat, while the shutter regulates the amount of light reaching the film. The Yashica does all of this very well; thank you.

Poor cousin of Rollei or not. I love my Yashica 635 just as much(although not a Yashica Mat or Mat124). They don't build cameras solid like these nowadays.

Have had a chance to really play with the Yashica. So, now have a couple of thoughts.

Glad I got the older LM one. Have heard of light meter problems with the 124 (due to obsolete batteries). The meter on my LM works just fine. I tracked it against my Nikon and it is right on. Ground glass seems much better than my older Yashica. And, I really missed those engraved lines. Most of my pictures have been crooked for years.

Don't need 220 film. So, that is fine.

I ordered a handle for it. Two reasons, first I need a place to put my flash, second my old arthritis makes the handle nicer. I had one for my old Yashica and now I remember why.

I had also forgotten how quiet it is. In a couple of recent situations (background noise) I actually wondered if I had taken the picture. Total absence of "blackout" because of mirror action (naturally) and no focal plane "clack".

Now, to the old enlarger to see the real work happen...

Actually, the EM, LM or even a later D, as long as you get one with the Yashinon, not the Yashicor lens, is often considerably cheaper than a 124G.

If I didn't already have Mamiya and Kowa, I'd have one. I still think about getting one every once in a while just to carry around in the car.
