I recommend that anyone unfamiliar with Bert's work look at his pictures online, because in the days before photographers were celebrities his work for Picture Post ( a British equivalent of Life Magazine ) was renowned, he was a sergeant in the army photography and film section in WW11 where he shot some great pictures, and I particularly remember his shots of the U.S. Marines landing at Inchon in the Korean War http://www.slightly-out-of-focus.com...dy_Inchon.html

    Why?

I understand that both girls were models that he hired.

8 pages of posts and no mention of Jerry N. Uelsmann??? He used a Bronica S2A then a Bronica SQ - both 6x6 SLRs.

Lee Friedlander, Peter Gowland, Bert Stern, and Ralph Eugene Meatyard are others that used medium format.

    Any Great Medium format photogrphers?

Robert Mapplethorpe, who shot a Hasselblad for the bulk of his work.

(Oops, he's already been mentioned, but he's my favorite.)

    Erich Saloman

I think one of the first great medium format photographers was Erich Salomon using an Ermanox camera. These took 4.5cm by 6cm glass plates. He took some excellent photographs under difficult circumstances.
