Thanks again for the fantastic response. As you can imagine, I've received more requests than I can currently handle, so if I haven't responded to your PM or e-mail I will do so as soon as I can.

I knew they would find good homes. This is better than Christmas, because Santa is real this time!

A couple of weeks ago I started a thread here, asking about old folders. I thought that they sounded interesting, I like the look of old lenses, and I wanted something simple I could just stick into a pocket. I guess I've watched too many old movies -- the kinds where the hero wanders around city streets with a fedora and a long coat with large pockets.

Shortly after, John sent me a message, saying that he'd put one in the mail for me. It showed up last Friday and I spent the weekend admiring it and putting film through it. John's really serious about how he's rebuilt these things -- he sent me an Agfa Isolette model II and it's just gorgeous. Instruction book PDFs are readily available online. My oldest daughter (30, and very digital, poor child,) is really impressed by it. I've had a blast learning how to use it. I took it to an auction my wife dragged me to, an old farm, and got excited over some details of the old barn and overgrown garden. I'm going to develop the film tonight and see what I got.

Using these things is at least as much fun as I thought it might be. I'm happy as a kid in a candy store -- maybe more so. John is an awfully nice guy for doing this, and I greatly appreciate it. I'll post some of the pictures, if I got any where the focus and exposure are decent.

Mike

Default future medium/large format devotee

Hello,

What a generous offer you're making. One that will inspire folks to try larger formats.

I shoot 35mm primarily, and process my own B&W. I would love to try a folder.

Please send me information. I will gladly comply with your prerequisites.

Thanks, Dan.

I don't want a camera - I already have four folders - but what an awesome gesture. I do hope these see some use.

Default Add a Human Rangefinder to your folder!

I was looking for accessory rangefinders (the Isolette II models are zone focus only) when I stumbled upon this little gem:

http://photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=003HEV
http://www.tomchuk.com/rf_hfd/index.php

Basically, it uses the parallax of your eyes and your arm's length to build a chart for estimating focus. I'll be using it for sure.

Coupled with the exposure-mat: http://expomat.tripod.com/, nobody should fear anymore a camera without focus or exposure measurement!

To all who contacted me about my offer, I want to thank you for the fantastic interest and very kind messages. All of the cameras are now or soon will be on their way to their new owners. I think I've contacted everyone who will receive a camera and also those to whom, I'm sorry to say, I was unable to give cameras. If I failed to respond to your PM or e-mail I apologize. Maybe I will do this again sometime once I have a few more cameras than I know what to do with.

Again, thanks very much (and try to give a little something to APUG).

Best regards, John

A fantastic offer, what a gent, it gives you faith in society!

For those receiving a Isolette, you won't be disappointed, it's a great camera, simple with a superb sharp lens.
