Carl Zeiss Jena 2.8/80 Tessar lens
I ended up with with a CZJ 2.8/80 Tessar lens on a P6 mount to add to the battery of CZJ lenses I have. Would anyone care to comment on the thing? I have never owned one or used one but I seem to have read somewhere that they were only produced for one year. It is marked 1Q and is in exe++ condition. What can I expect in use compared to the CZJ 2.8/80 biometer?
I did a search but didn't find much, the lens seems to be kind of rare in that mount.

That the first time I've ever heard of one. Have you tried it yet?

As I understand from Rollei lore, the Tessar was difficult to make 2.8 in the 80mm and it might be rather a poor performer until you get down to 5.6 or so.

You will have to test and compare it.
It seems that this lens was made for the East German (DDR) market only and came to the west after november 1989.

That was my next step, The quick roll I shot to test a P6 camera looked pretty sharp in the corners but I never got smaller than F4. David

If the f/2.8 80 mm Tessar Zeiss (west) made for Hasselblad is anything to go by, it will not be a great lens.

@ Q.G.:
Jena is a university (optical) town in eastern Germany, former DDR.
After WW2 Germany was split up into 2 parts: Eastern Germany and Western Germany, this lasted until november 1989 when the Berlin Wall came down.
After WW2 Zeiss was plit up into Carl Zeiss Jena (east) and Zeiss (Oberkochen) (west)
Carl Zeiss Jena made quite a few Tessars, the best known are the 50mm Tessars for the Praktica's.

Peter,
I know about the history of Zeiss.
But thanks anyway.
I also know that a Tessar is a Tessar is a Tessar ...
Not the best lenses Zeiss (unsplit - either of the two parts - nor the re-united Zeiss) ever made.

You are right with the quality................

The 3.5's are lovely, I have 2 of them!
Cheers
