Either that or the manufacturer saw this problem coming. I'll bet you a nickel that Pentax manufactured a tool that fits those lugs, just for the purpose!

Bravo! Why buy a tool when you can make one?

[QUOTE=Worker 11811;974570]My brother gave me his old Pentax K-1000 camera today but the battery has leaked and the cover is stuck shut. I can't unscrew it without risk of stripping the slot.

What do you think I should use to unstick the cover?

When I was in retail camera biz, we saw this fairly frequently. Rather than send the camera out, we made a tool. Got a BIG screwdriver; then we ground the tip to the same curve as the coin slot. Then by giving lots of pressure to avoid buggering the slot and turning, we could often get it started off.

Others recommend taking off the baseplate and soaking the area in solvent.

We never had a problem with the altered screwdriver and saved many a customera trip to the repair shop.

The last one I made was from an old tire iron. Wicked looking thing.
