    Sexton and TMAx

I read a piece many years ago by John Sexton on TMAX films, and he said something to the effect of "after using TMAX films for two years now, I am beginning to get intimately aware" of the emulsion. It's so true. We think we can do a roll here and a roll there and get some consistency in our work. Great artists know their materials, their strengths and limitations, and they max them out.

That being said, I periodically switch from TMAX to HP5, but still use Diafine. No one can tell the difference. I can't even tell the difference. So I think the endless obsession with film and developers is a bit overdone. Ansel used TriX. Avedon used TriX. Callahan used TriX. Salgado used TriX. etc. Does their work look at all alike?

    FP4 & HP5, both in ID-11 1:1. I occasionally throw some Tri-x in there too.

Lately have been using Neopan Acros 120 developed with Ilford ID-11 1:1 and 35mm Kentmere 100 in Blazinal 1-50. Been quite happy with the results

I've been using ID11 exclusively, initially as it was the only dev stocked locally but I'm sticking with it for a while before I start experimenting with others, besides Acros comes up so nicely in it!

Tmax 400 + Microphen, that's my standard these days. Anything slower I may use Rodinal.

I am evaluating Thornton's two bath for Delta 100, HP5 (4x5) and Delta 400 (35mm, roll) since FG-7 went away (and while I still have some stock).
    I feel, therefore I photograph.
