WWI Colour Photos from Hans Hildenbrand

These images have a surreal quality to them - almost like the forebears to modern high dynamic range images of today: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/pict...d-War-One.html

Same images can be found here: http://www.spiegel.de/fotostrecke/fo...cke-37025.html

All the images were taken using the autochrome process.

Regards, Art.

Thanks Art, these are very interesting, I love early color work. Except for all the destruction this could have been Boy Scout camp. Have you seen Sergei Gorskii's color work that he did in Russia from 1908-1915? It was a process using 3 glass plates exposed through colored filters and then projected and must have been jaw dropping at the time. They are still impressive today. http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/empire/

Here are many more autochromes from WWI:

If you can find a copy, the book "Photographs for the Tsar" published around 1980, is a good book on Gorskii's work
