They describe film as "something new", which I wouldn't! Still, good series of portraits made in Afghanistan with a rollieflex and some tri-x and plus-x. Good to see such work getting attention from the New York Times Lens Blog.

Kudos for the NYT for letting him do this, although I have to say I only like the first and last ones of that series - the others seem overly static and mugshot-like.

You're right, the description does make it seem like he's resurrecting something out of Jurassic Park

Threads merged. I have to say, I thought the accompanying article was annoying. Describing medium format film work as laborious is just off... wish they had spent some time writing about who was in the pictures, and less time on the process, though, I have to say... it's encouraging to see work that looks like it was made a little more slowly than most of the pictures I've seen out of Afghanistan.

The design department at the university of applied sciences in Dortmund, where Banger studied, still educates analogue techniques.
