Most cities with a university will have a local chemical company --- it's worth befriending these people if you are a regular buyer of raw chemicals and glassware. Some of them are wary of new people because of homeland security, reporting requirements, and drug uses of some chemicals. Explain who you are and what you are using the chemistry for and you should have no trouble.
