    Ultrafine B+W 125 film...same as JandC 125, HP-4???

I was taking a look at Ultrafine B+W ISO 125 film in 8x10 size, and I was wondering if this is the same film as J and C photos 125 film that sells for just abit cheeper. I also heard rumor that it could be Ilford HP-4.

Also, anyone develop this in HC-110 and can supply me with any starting development times.

    Thanks so much.

It's neither, it's rebranded Ilford FP4. They are on their last master roll so if you want Ilford at this price buy it now.

note: you were probably thinking the right thing and just typed the wrong film name--HP5 is the 400 speed film.
Let's see what I've got in the magic trash can for Mateo!

FP-4, sorry. I was confusing it with Ilfords other film.

I have been using the Arista EDU 8x10 film since it came out, and now its not being made anymore...so I was thinking of trying this Ultrafine 125 film for making AZO contact prints. I have had great success with the Arista EDU. and HC-110 combo, but I was wondering how well FP-4 develops with HC-110. I guess I will do alittle seaching.

    Thanks so much!

    Ryan,
The EFKE PL 100 developed in Sandy King's Pyrocat formula is a great film to use for contact printing on AZO. Consider giving it a try.

Is there somewhere I can find the correct way to mix the Kings Pyrocat formula for Efke 100 film? I did a basic seach and came up with this. Also, I develop my sheet film in trays, I see different formulas for if someone develops in a Jobs, trays, ect. Thanks for your help, I am a learning student!

    Pyrocat-HD

    Stock Solution A
    Distilled Water (125 degrees F) . . . . . . . . 75 ml
    Sodium Metabisulfite. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1 g
    Pyrocatechin . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5 g
    Phenidone . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0.2 g
    Potassium Bromide . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0.2 g
    Water to make . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 100 ml

    Stock Solution B
    Distilled Water . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 70 ml
    Potassium Carbonate . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 75 g
    Distilled water to make - - - - - - - - - - - - - 100 ml

To make a standard working solution, mix 1 part A with 1 part B with 100 ml water. Pyrocat-HD is not subject to problems with uneven development, so agitation can be reduced to once per minute or less. 2.5 grams of Metol may be substituted for the Phenidone.

Ryan, try Photographer's Formulary for a starter kit ($30) and see how you like it. I'm enjoying it and it is easier than doing the chemistry for the first attempt. tim

Thanks Tim! I know how much time you have put into reseaching this Pyro thing, so I will have to give it a try. I cannot remember, but are you using the Ekfe 100, or 25?
