The Edge of Darkness is an inspirational work written by a humanist/photographer. It was sad to hear of his passing for he truly was one of the good guys.

EDIT: I wrongly assumed the poster before me meant "Elements of Transition" which was available as a download for some time. I did not know that "Elements" is not available too.

I simply went to Abebooks, and guess what?

Multiple copies of Elements available in the UK. Obviously you will have to decide upon the price that you are willing to pay. However, it appears as though the price is "reasonable". Let us know what you decide to do, and best of luck.

Elliot, found a copy of "Elements" via BookFinder. Its coming from France. Hopefully, it will survive the minimalist Amazon packaging requirements. Looking forward to reading a paper version.

    I love Edge of Darkness.
I re-read it at least once a year.

Just received Thorton's "Elements", and its in very good condition. Though many of the papers he discusses are no longer available, there is a wealth of knowledge in his discussion for each image from its taking to its printing. For us monochrome printers, his two analogue books are a treasure.
