Default Upcoming photography exhibit near Atlanta...

Hi there!

It's been awhile since I've posted here. I thought I'd drop a note to invite any of you that live in or around the Atlanta area to an upcoming exhibit that I was recently juried into.

This juried exhibition celebrating photography of the "Rural South", will be held on September 21-23 and 28-30 in Pike County, Georgia.

You can read more on the exhibition, subject matter and the location at this link:

SlowExposures

It’s quite a treat for me, since there were 106 photographers who entered more than 600 photographs for the show. Only 81 images were selected for the show and my image of "James" will be there right along with the other 80. Also, there will be a book published of the chosen works for this show and prints available for sale.

I'm excited since it's been sometime since I've shown my work. Bobby and I are both looking forward to making the trek towards Atlanta.

Hope to see some of you there!!

Thanks Suzanne, Eddy.

Eddy...sorry for not posting the work! Here's the series of 'James' . The first link is the image that will be on exhibit and published in the book. I have to admit that the second photograph was actually my favorite expression and shot of James.

(sorry for the links, but the images looked too 'compressed' after I loaded them here, plus these are rough scans, not the actual print )

The above photographs were taken with a Pentax 6x7, Efke film.

Thanks again!

Dorothy- congrats, and great images. I'm wondering why you chose to make them look like really old prints (they look like some of the turn-of-the-19th/ early-20th century photos of my family). Also, what did you do to make them look that way?

Wonderful portraits, Dorothy! #2 is great, but I really love #4, with the walking stick crooked as a frozen serpent, and the train tracks in the background for ambiance. I was born in Augusta, and these bring back memories! It looks like a great show, wish I could see it!

Dorothy -

Your James' are full of LIFE and if the website is any indication, the whole exhibit will be a breath of simple, no-nonsense, fresh air.

Makes me a little sad tho – just swung down thru the broad fields of southeast GA (Attapulcus/Donaldsonville/Havana/Quincy) back at the beginning of the month and would have loved visiting Slow Exposures 2007 but alas ... I'm out of synch.

I'll sure keep an eye out for next summer though - and thanks for the heads-up.

Bruce
