I would sooner read the FP4-datasheet than anything on velvia or epson...

Hey! A great and really commercial idea! A magazine devoted solely to FP4 developed in PMK and printed on Oriental Seagull using a Durst. We don't wanna hear about no filthy HP5 or DD-X or Multigrade Warmtone or De Vere...
Of course not. But certainly, I'd rather read about colour film than digital black and white any day. And while I'd rather have film than digi, I'd rather have an M8 than no camera.

Fortunately, that isn't the choice though, is it Roger?
And as long as Black & White Photography UK remains...

B&WP UK is already a niche publication. If it swings towards digital it risks alienating a lot of its existing readers whilst failing to attract many new ones from the ultra-competitive "mainstream photography" / "digital photography" / "computer peripheral" magazines.
This will be up to the magazine's editor and publishers. However, it's a move that hasn't worked terribly well for other photographic businesses. Jessops springs to mind...

Dear Frank,
That's what I'm saying. IF it is too small a niche and needs to diversify -- and I'm far from convinced that this is the case -- then I personally would rather see 'Black and White and Colour Film Photography (but no digital)' than 'Black and White in Film and Digital (but no colour)'.
I am acutely aware, though, that others have a different opinion and would prefer the latter to the former. And I am (happily) not the editor: this is for David to sort out, not me or APUG.
ok -I've avoided expressing an opinion so far, but I can hold on no longer.
The magazine is about Black and White photography in all it's many forms. The beauty of it so far as that there has (in the main) been an excellent balance between all the many process that fall within the umbrella. The magazine, in my eyes, has never been about film, digital, alt or any other process, it's about the making of black and white photographs. My hope is that David continues the excellent juggling act that Ailsa managed in making sure the Magazine was relevant to all who participate in black and white photography. A lean towards a bias in any direction would ruin the concept of the magazine, and this would be a great shame. The magazine has been successful so far, some features maybe a little tired, some may need freshening up, but the core concept is good and strong.
A move toward film only is not for this magazine - it's a great idea for a new publication though, for sure.

Pretty much nails it for me. Well said.

This months copy came through the door today, not had time to read it but a glance at the contents page. Page 80 digital camera listings and also listed is a brand new series digital photography for beginers, a guide to the equipment and cameras you will need. A subject that has been done to death in almost every other photography mag. If this was ballenced by a beginers guide to darkroom I would not mind so much. We all had to start somewhere and it is a lot harder to start in the darkroom than when us old timers did, not the information or oppertunity we had.
My point being if it is thought that newcomers to digital photography will need to be lead by the hand through the minefield of choosing their kit, why is it presumed that the newcomer to traditional photography is some kind of expert that needs no help?
Will read the mag before any more posts.
Regards Paul.
