Mike is back next month, rest assured!
Glad you are generally approving of what I'm doing. Keep the excellent ideas and suggestions coming!
er..
I didn't make any approving remarks - that was someone else. In short, the last two issues have been dire and I've already cancelled my direct debit so you're going to have to convince me that I really want to renew my subscription when it becomes due.
When I bought my first issue of BWP (December 2004) and subsequently took out a subscription and later bought all the back issues, it was mainly because it was the only mag I had come across where, in my opinion, the contributors appeared to be primarily photographers who also happened to work for, or contribute to, a magazine. I would compare this to other magazines where the contributors are primarily journalists who also have an interest in photography.
Unfortunately, David, on the strength of your contributions so far, I would put you in the second group and that, for me, is the biggest problem.
There are other problems which started before your arrival and I suspect had a good deal to do with Ailsa's sudden departure. I suspect the rot started from higher up and those people responsible, who clearly want to push the mag in a different direction, brought you in as they saw in you what they wanted. Problem is, it doesn't seem to be what a lot of the existing subscribers want.
Ultimately, the mag will survive or fail on it's decisions. Life's too short for me to be overly concerned either way. If you start producing a mag that has enough content that interests me to justify my subscription, I'll continue, if you don't, I won't. And if you want to know what I would like more of, take a look at some back issues pre 2007 as it was at the begining of this year, approximately, when we started to see an increase of equipment related articles (e.g. five things I can't live without) and the start of news items and mini reviews of items of no interest to most people, such as digital compacts.
My, what a presumptuous, presupposing and ghastly person you are!

(I think it's unwise to assume a post is directed at oneself unless explicitly quoted, myself; it just makes one look narcissistic.)
To add a counterbalance, I have to say I've been extremely impressed so far in this thread with the way in which Mr Corfield has been handling criticisms various, and the apparent intent to address those criticisms - to the extent that I'm considering buying the magazine for the first time. My only complaint would be that it's black and white only - where's the love for those of us who like colour as well
(As an aside, I saw JPG Magazine mentioned... I feel honour bound to add that not only is it very digital, but I'm afraid it also lost my respect - and money - the day it accepted sponsorship from "Suicide Girls" ('sponsorship' to the extent of not just accepting their advertising, but allowing them to set the 'theme' as well,) an organisation which is renowned for treating photographers (and indeed models) like dirt. That tells me they have absolutely no interest in photography or photographers whatsoever, and is not something I personally can support.)

You can never please all of the readers all of the time, and once again I reiterate what I have said on here countless times: namely that I am here to garner opinion and ideas and take the magazine forward. equiphoto I am sorry you don't see enough reasons to continue with your support...
