Yes, the DSLR listing is just silly in this mag, serves no purpose, but to me it's a minor irritation, there are some very good things in the January issue: Bailey, Lee Frost portfolio, Salgado book review, gum printing article to name some. It is a unique publication which seems to constantly be able to include something new and remain interesting.

I don't really get the reason why subscribers expect their copy before the shops get theirs. I haven't seen this mentioned on any of the adverts for subscribing, am I missing something?

Seems too good to be true, to get the copy cheaper and earlier. I'm not being smart, just curious where this is mentioned or if this is just expectation.

You are probably right. Having to wait 2-3 weeks, all the while ignoring the luring copy in the newsstand however, is quiet another thing...

Most magazines to which I have subscribed reached me a few days before they appeared on the newsagent's shelves. I assume this is done to avoid all the letters from disgruntled subscribers who are champing at the bit when they see their magazine on the newsagent's shelves first. Presumably this is more difficult to arrange when subscription copies are sent overseas via the various "printed-letter" rates which may end up going by surface mail rather than air.

As for the magazine, unfortunately I am of a different view to many others who have posted and after buying almost every issue since I first saw issue #2 this was the last one I will be buying as a matter of course - now I will only buy it if something is of particularly interest.

Bob.

Possibly having a different cover for subscribers complicates things. While it looks lovely, perhaps it's a bit extravagant.

Then again, I'm probably completely wrong...

Fintan, its a cunning ruse. When you later see it on a newstand you buy another copy because you don't recognise the cover. On the other hand you may be right; about being wrong.

Funnily enough, this was an unexpected pleasure as I hadn't realised about the unmarked cover until I subscribed. I actually find it a real luxury to have a quality covershot with no intrusive attention-grabbing print, and it's certainly not something I've ever seen on other mags I've subscribed to.

I totally agree; in fact there I times when I wish the title banner itself was droped. Just have it on the spine. Subscribers know what they're getting so don't really need the front banner, just the image pure and simple.

I fear the price of 6x6 TLRs is set to rise.

Issue 82 gives the goodies on the Mamiya C220 in the hands of Lee Frost in a new series entitled "SECONDHAND FILM CAMERAS".

Oh, the secret is out. This is BAD news.
