Why not ask Les directly, he's on here. For what it's worth, I think the 'August' issue goes from strength to strength, but then I'm not so sad to refuse to accept that digital has it's worth and is just another media.

I think you are in the wrong room: "Insults" is down the hall, next door to "Dead Horse Flogging For Beginners" and "Trolling Fun For All The Family"...

Liz decided that she didn't wish to continue with the Q&A column. We have talked about an article about film but I haven't yet done it, partly because of a personal matter not related to Liz or Black and White Photography and partly because I've been out of the country for the past 5 weeks.

Compared to anything on the newstands on this side of the pond, Black and White is still a great mag.

Les Thanks for the reply. Now we know. Given that this was a decision by B&W it's a pity that no announcement was made by the magazine with at least some form of background to the reasons why. The readers deserve this instead of being left "swinging".

There seems to be a tendency of mags to do these things without announcement or "rationale". I recall AP's actions concerning R Hicks column amongst other changes when the editor changed.

You might argue that the whole of APUG is really a Q&A site and yet despite this itch being scratched constantly I still read the Q&A avidly and I would be surprised if I am alone.

There may well have been evidence from questionnaires /focus groups backing this decision. On the other hand if it was a "gut reaction" or change for change's sake because the "new broom was sweeping" then I get worried about the future of any magazine run on this basis.

To the gents who are considering canceling; consider then where we will all be.
As more and more cancel, there will be less and less of a film shooters presence. So then, why not change over to the new readership - all digital.

And we keep wondering why all the Film rags are disapearing? Could a bit of it be the righteous indignation of those who don't accept but pure film. The Film magazines - what do you think they will do when they have no subscribers.

The new minority viewpoint in my very humble opinion better change to "hey .. the glass is 1/3 full!" "Fantastic!"

Else, are we not unwittingly helping lend substance to the ugly thought that there is no more money in publishing about film ... at all?

With the internet & APUG what need have we for photo magazines. The standard of printing is rubbish. Most of the articles are for first timers. Buying them is a habit and should be broken as soon as possible. Set yourself free and save money.

Cheers

I'll stick to printed magazines, it might surprise you that even articles for first timers sometimes inform us old hands.

I made my first print 45 or 46 years ago, I've worked as an emulsion & photo chemist, still work as a professional photographer, and have patented new processes but I can still always learn.

Another view: I may be wrong but surely it is the editor's job to make these types of changes - using gut reaction or whatever other judgement tools they can bring to the task. This seems to me evidence of an editor editing and would not worry me in and of itself.

The August issue is seriously disappointing. Every other page there's a full page ad. I took it back to the newsagent and got my money back. If I wanted a rag full of ads I'd buy AP.
