I wonder would people express what exactly they found of value in the current issue of B&W that made it worthwhile to part with their money. If not this issue, name the last issue that was value for money.
cheers
Vincent
Vincent,
All of them. However if I want a specific style of photography/photographer or an ad free publication.....I buy a book.
Trevor, I did not say ad free, I said put all the ads together at the back of the magazine. Then people who want to read ads know where to find them and everyone else can read the articles without all the clutter. But to be honest unless things improve soon I won't be buying B&W UK any more, having been giving it the benefit of the doubt for some six months, I do now wonder if it is worth the money.

Andy, I'm really sorry to hear that you feel that way about the mag. But regards costs and value for money, I subscribe by direct debit which costs me £27.30 for 13 issues, that's £2.10 an issue. IMHO excellent value for money.
I had a chance to flick through the August issue while I was waiting for a flight at Frankfurt airport. Leaving the ads aside, what on earth has happened to the printing quality? Having bought every issue of the magazine between 2001 and 2006 I became used to seeing top quality reproductions, which sadly appears to have disappeared in the last issue.
Cheers,

I wanted to play along in the competition but I just didn't have enough advance notice to get the prints ready. As usual, I am telling myself, "next year I'll be better prepared..."
I am very impressed with the changes at the magazine. I would still like to see a little less emphasis on the "famous" people and the experts and their opinions... and much more emphasis on what people are actually doing today with b&w, from a creative standpoint.
From what I have seen of late in terms of other mags we have the choice in order of preference of (1) B&W (2) AP and it's a very poor second at that (3) the rest. For my feelings on the rest see my rant about accidentally purchasing "Practical Photography" which pretty well covers the rest.
In choice terms of magasine reading material as far as I can see, it's B&W or nothing. We might not like things as they are in terms of choice but that's the stark reality. With the others, it's not that they don't want to listen, it's more that they don't even acknowledge that we, the film and darkroom world stiil exist.
