I am planning to be at the NPG to see these shows this coming Thursday, also will be going to the Forests of Fountainebleau show at the National Gallery-Landscape photographs and paintings.

I stopped by the NPG on my way home tonight. The Steichen pictures, while beautifully printed, were the same ol' Steichens we've all seen a million times. Not particularly exciting.

However, Zaida Ben Yusuf made some of the most beautiful photographs I've ever seen. Sprinkled about the many muddy, washed out platinum prints she did were some transcendent platinum prints. Platinum prints which glow, and that's not easy. How can I not have heard of this masterful photographer?

Jim It is the ZBY portraits I am most interested in seeing, there is a published book on her work. NYC.

The Forests show, is period landscape, both paintings and photographs.

Some of them are really something. There's some drek in there, but when she was good, OH MY GOD was she good.
