Going to the Getty in LA

I am going to Getty on Tuesday January 13 to see the Carleton Watkins show.

Probably be there around lunch time.

    Can anyone meet up?

I'll be the guy with the baby on his chest and a Hasselblad Super Wide in hand.

We just went there before Christmas. It is fabulous! The Watkins show is stunning, although the docent (teaching assistant) mis-spoke about the camera replica on exhibit. She said something about a mirror inside. I had to correct her. She asked how I knew and I told her that I use similar, but smaller (4x5, 8x10, 11x14) cameras. She was quite surprised to hear that people still used view cameras??? Anyway, I have a few photos on my blog at http://rcodaphotography.blogspot.com...xhibition.html if anyone is interested.

We spent ALL DAY there on a Saturday (they're open till 9 PM) and had dinner at their wonderful restaurant.

Indeed a great place - wish I could be there. Don't miss any of it, it is all worth the time. If you have any extra time, check out the National Cemetery nearby, a really great resting place for those that served.

Just FYI, the museum is free, but parking is 8 or 10 bucks. The parking fee is per car, so includes as many people as you can cram into one vehicle. So, if you all will be meeting up there, and it is convenient for you, you might be able to save some dough and some traffic congestion by meeting off site and carpooling to the lot. Don't bother trying to find parking right next to the Center, as there is not any. Meet somewhere down near Sunset Blvd. instead.

...and while you are in the neighborhood, you can stop in to Bel-Air Camera.

If you want to check out some fine art photo galleries, there are a handful in one location at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica:

    Rose Gallery
Bergamot Station Arts Center 2525 Michigan Ave Bldg G-5, Santa Monica, CA 90404

Oh and don't forget LACMA in the Mid-Wilshire area...they always have great exhibits (I think they have a few photographic ones running right now). On Wilshire just east of La Brea, IIRC.
