Flash for Rolleiflex
I am looking to do some flash work with my older Rolleiflex which has only a sync cord connector and no hot shoe. I have a Metz 20C2 which works well, but wonder if there are any other more powerful units which use a sync cord and are not hot shoe dedicated. Thanks.

I have 2 rolleis, an automat from the fifties and a cord from around 1960, and I have been using an old viviter 283 which for me has power in plenty, you an pick them up for a song today, or even better the 285.

I also have an Viviter 285 which works great on my Rolleiflex 2.8.

On my twinlens I use the e36re because it attaches to the pistol grip. The e36re is also nice because it lets you use a synch cord that locks at both ends.
I also can say the Nikon SB-28 works well as a conventional non-TTL auto flash. I use that one more with the Rollei SLRs because the SB-28 has an adjustable field of coverage that works well with the 50 and 40mm lenses.

I have a SunPak auto 555 "potato masher" to use with my Rolleis. I don't think you can get much more powerful than that. I even managed to get a Rollei locking sync cord to use with it.

I've used a norman for my seagull 'flex clone. Why? Cause the silver parabolic reflector makes it looks more periodic.

I have the Metz 60CT4 and it would use sync cord and is quite powerful

I don't own the E36RE, just saw it in images on the net.
How is the bracket of this flash different from a normal bracket so it can go between rolleifix and rolleigrip?

If you nose aroud a bit there are all kinds of connectors/gizmos that will allow you to hook up any kind of a flash unit to your Rollie. A nice pc-to-hot shoe would work. Porters Camera in Iowa should have some of these things. I had a Rollieflex 3.5 in the 60s and 70s and I loved it dearly. I am still printing photos taken with it back then. Cameras may change but my Hollywood stars of that vintge never get any older in my negatives.

Another vote for the Vivitar 283 as a great match for the Rolleiflex.
