Default Large Format Outing May 18th Chicago

The Midwest Large Format Asylum will hold its May outing in the historic Pullman District in Chicago. The date is set for Sunday, May 18th. We will meet at the Florence Hotel at 6:00 am for a early morning shoot.

More information on the historic Pullman District can be found at www.pullmanil.org

More information about the outing can be found in the FORUM section at www.midwestlargeformat.com

This month the outing will be on the 3rd Sunday rather than our usual 3rd Saturday as we have arranged for a volunteer to escort us to locations not usually open to the public. We are asking for a free-will donation of $10 per person for the historic society.

We had an outing to this location last year which was a great success. I will post a few photographs in the gallery section from that outing.

Just as a sidenote...the Pullman District is where the movie THE FUGITIVE with Harrison Ford was shot.

If you have been thinking about joining us on an outing, this will be one not to be missed.

Rick --

I have thought about attending one of the outings for a while and I think this will finally be the one I go to. It should be an outstanding day. How many photographers usually go on the outings?

Looking forward to shooting with you all.

Thanks,

Brian

It's too bad that the outing will conflict with church for many of us. I would have been happy to meet you guys.

We were hoping to see some new faces on this outing. Glad you are thinking of joining us.

Pullman is a very interesting area. Getting into some of the old historic buildings is just fantastic. Last year when we were there, we had access to any of the old hotel rooms.

Usually our outings are on the 3rd Saturday of every month, but this month we are at the mercy of when the historical society could get a volunteer to meet us. Sunday was the only day available for them. The old historic green church is there in Pullman. Maybe one could slip away for an hour. (We tried to get inside the green church last time, but there was a childrens choir practicing in the sanctuary.)

Usually we average about 6 to 12 people every month.

Our January outing is at the Starved Rock lodge where we show portfolios of our photographs from our previous outings. Last January we had 17 portfolios to review!!!

If it helps we will be meeting at the Florence Hotel at 11am to actually go to the factory site. We also meet at 8am for breakfast. We'll post the location of the restaurant for breakfast as it's known.

Just so I understand, there will be shooting at 6am, breakfast at 8am, then more shooting at 11am at the factory? Will there be shooting in the Florence Hotel?

I'm sure will be doing some shooting in the area after the factory tour. Our access to the hotel is conditional on the person escorting our group. They're all volunteers and the escort may not want to stay to provide access to factories and hotel. I'm sure we can start with a short tour of the Hotel (first floor) since we'll be there.

If there's interest we can arrange for another outing in the hotel.
