Got a good deal on one of these if I want it, but don't know much about them. Can anybody out there enlighten me?

    Good Morning, NC,

The Auto S2 is an nifty little camera. The lens gives quality results. I always use the manual settings with my S2, so I don't know anything about metering accuracy or proper functioning in the Auto setting. Personally, I like mine better than the similar but somewhat smaller Canon G-III.

They have a wonderful sharp lens and produce amazing photos. You can get excellent examples cheap as they sold a ton of them when they were new. Make sure the mirror in the rangefinder is not loose, they are glued and the glue can dry out and fail.

i got this cam.. this is the one i traded my slr for.. i love it.. its nice.. the build is quite on the low side but not too much.. they wouldnt have survived all these years if they are really crappy.. its just that there's something in the build that doesnt make it as tough as tank.. if you have shot with a minolta himatic 7s, then you know what i mean.. but overall, its one great camera..

I got the Auto S2 from my uncle after he passed away a number of years ago. It is a great little camera, excellant lense. The manual was lost so I had to figure it out on to use it. It's not hard to use, just takes a little time.

In case you haven't seen the camera in person, the only thing I would add is that it's a fairly large camera. If you're looking for something along the lines (size wise) of the Canon GIII or Minolta 7 series, you might be surprised.

What Konical and others say is dead on. A really sharp lens, accurate rangefiender, parallax correcting viewfinder. Auto or manual operation. Get it.
