I am an amateur photographer. I'm mostly broke so I am primarily using an older Canon Digital XT. I would like to shoot more film and get a higher end digital camera but as I say, I aspire to be merely poor. Don't get as much opportunity to go out shooting as I would like.
I suppose I should say something about my photographic interests, since it would seem appropriate: I enjoy and appreciate a wide variety of photographic styles but sadly lack the photographic eye, talent and skill for most forms of photography. Mostly I try to amuse myself by pretending to have some small skill in semi-abstract architectural photography. If I have any influences in my work -- if that is not being too presumptuous and pretentious of me to say -- they would be Pete Turner, Mondrian (by way of the "Partridge Family" bus) and KodaChrome, although not specifically in that order. Most of my recent work has been done digitally although I would like to do more work on film, in particular b&w film. I would also like to get a newer, higher-end digital camera and have my XT converted to infrared; I would love to work in b&w infrared. One problem with film (in addition to the cost of film and processing) is my lack of ability to manipulate the print, which I find myself doing quite extensively with digital images (should I admit that? My instructor said that the final image is the thing so perhaps it is not a mortal sin to do and admit).
I currently reside in Oregon in the United States although my home is really Alaska. I am hoping to return there soon.
