Site progress report..

by Sean on 12-28-2010 at 04:13 AM
The latest updates were to the homepage. I have put some extra focus on social networking and keeping a newsfeed updated there (news relevant to APUG & traditional photography).

Next on the menu is the big 4.1 core forum update which contains over 500 bug fixes and many feature requests. There will also be a gallery update and I think we'll shoot for importing the old links system into the new system.

Stay tuned

Turning over advertising to the pros..

by Sean on 10-20-2010 at 05:36 AM
I love that so many small businesses can reach a large target audience on APUG. We've taken on quite a few advertisers over the years and I've always tried to manage it myself. It's reached a point where managing this has become a slight disaster to say the least. Who has paid, who hasn't and left, who is still current but simply forgot to have money in their paypal acct, which ads to disable, enable or re-enable.. contacting advertisers and fielding problems with advertisers and their accounts.

More updates, fixes and features have gone in..

by Sean on 09-25-2010 at 08:33 PM
I've taken us from vBulletin 4.0.5 to 4.0.7 (containing 300+ core system bug fixes), as well as an update to the APUG Gallery from RC1 to RC2. Bit of a scramble and a 3hr outage but all is going well. The hard work on the initial vBulletin 4.0 APUG build has paid off, allowing me to have quite pain free system updates. Keeping our system up to date has never been easier, the last system was a nightmare to update. We also have some features ported back to the new system such as Gallery thumbnails

The challenges of new software...

by Sean on 08-16-2010 at 08:00 PM
Well, this has been one challenging APUG upgrade and still a lot of tweaking lies ahead. Of course life would be easier if we had a team of 5 working on this, but it's just myself and a freelance coder (when I can afford him). There should be a large round of bug fixes and feature requests going in this week as well as a point release of vbulletin software taking us from vbulletin 4.0.5 to 4.0.6 (this includes over 100 bug fixes in the forum software itself). One of my main goals is to re-instate

The blogs are back..

by Sean on 02-07-2010 at 02:15 AM
Unfortunately my darkroom is boxed up so I won't have much to blog about. We are hoping to move house soon but are having trouble finding a buyer. Anyway the blog seems to have a lot of customization ability. Just look to your "Blog Control Panel" and you'll find a heap of options..
