1/2" tape isn't 2" tape so you're missing out on a lot of quality not using digital Neutrality free of signal defects ('warmth') is very well desired in audio engineering, although a lot of people used the SSL G tube console (recorded straight into ProTools though) at my school, a couple projects would use 2" tape.
