Agreed. On the other hand, if done carefully, large and heavy can also be safer. That's why archives often store documents in large albums. It keeps them flat and protects them from light or physical damage.
(Provided the books are made from sturdy, archival quality material and stored in proper conditions.)

Size and weight would be a problem if you wanted to display the photos or show them to people on a frequent basis but, for storage and occasional viewing, this might not be a problem if you kept the albums to a manageable size. (e.g. If you divide the collection into several albums of reasonable size.)
