I have this book too and was curious to hear what you had to say. Your thoughts pretty well echo my own. I too am not sorry to have bought it, but in spite of its many great photos, it always leaves me a bit disappointed. In addition to the time, maybe I am just not interested enough in the place. It is titled as a book of Paris, but I think I more wanted a book of HCB.

Here' one I wholeheartedly recommend. I've never gotten around to buying it, but take it home from the library about once a year. I should buy it now before the folks here scarf up the reasonably priced copies. Out of print, but good copies available through the Amazon network from about $30:
