I hear you. It is my opinion that Nikon and other camera makers experiment with this and that to see what flies. I guess it is also fair to say the do not know what will really work until zillions of camera buyers wring them out. I bought a Nikon N70 and a similar but simpler N50 as a backup. Only to find out they use different, oddball, batteries. Aaugh! Otherwise, I like the cameras. In fact I just bought another nice N70 body for $20 and got an AI 50mm f1.4 Nikkor lens thrown in. In the 1990s I paid over $500 for the first N70 body.
