The value of isolated instances is not what they say about themselves. It's how they fit into and what they say about the bigger picture. A single dot has little meaning beyond its own existence. A scatter chart filled with dots begins to show patterns. A fully populated series of patterns begin to show tendencies. And enough tendencies show direction.
