Hi everyone! I joined APUG about 5 - 6 years ago to get help ID'ing and selling my late husband's photography and darkroom equipment. Everyone was so kind and helpful, and I found good homes for all of it. Well - almost all of it. Recently I came across a box with "Eastman's Dry Plates" printed on the lid (the original box), and inside are fourteen 4" x 5" glass negative plates. Inside the lid someone has hand-written "Taken by Ralph Russel Doubleday, Worlds Greatest Rodeo Photograhper." I looked him up, and he was indeed called that and there are some museums and web sites devoted to him.

Unfortunately, there isn't any way for me to photograph the plates to make the images visible. One is totally black, but the others have images of what look like homesteads, or 1900s era porches with rocking chairs and various groups or singles of people, with several children. There is one spectacular-looking horse-drawn buggy.

I have checked locally, but can't find anyone who can authenticate these as Doubleday's, but I can't think of any reason for someone to write that in the lid if it wasn't true. In any case I would like to see them go to someone who would know how to take care of and appreciate them, so I thought of APUG.org.

I am going to make this an email auction. I will accept bids sent to me at threeoutside AT gmail.com until midnight, July 19, 2013, CST. (I'm in Omaha.) Please use "Doubleday Plates" as your Subject so I can be sure not to miss anyone's bid!

I will post the *amount* of each new bid in this thread, but not the bidders' IDs. I have one request: whoever buys them, if you make prints, I would love to have a set for my memorabilia. Please keep in mind that the winner will be asked to pay for the postage (on the up side, then you can choose the kind of mailing!) As soon as I receive the money, I'll donate it back here to APUG.org.
