Not at all -- borne out not only by Zeiss and Leica's own MTF charts, but also those from Hasselblad's photodo.com. The 45 G has long been acknowledged as the sharpest normal lens you can buy. On the G2 at least, you can prefocus (or zone focus) and then ride the AF lock with you thumb. It will keep the lens in place (and not drain the batteries) between shots. It's my standard operating procedure -- and street shooting is the primary function for my G.
