i think these might be ortho emulsions -- the simple bromide one is at least.
there are no dyes inserted to make them panchromatic ---

so lights out might suggest red-light can be on.

i have a hard enough time putting my sheet film in the water bath before the developer, i agree with you total darkness might be a tough nut to crack
