Clearly you need to shoot more often. That can only improve your work and get you into the better price range.
Well these days over half my shooting is digital, of the remainder, about 80% is black and white, which I home process, I'd consider it for colour as well, but these days it seems you can't buy chemistries that are not intended for large scale machine processing. When I first tried it, you could buy a 1L kit..... I don't think any one does that anymore, if you know of one, available in Canada, then please let me know.
