Seeing that you are testing color as well there are a few things to note:
color daylight film is affected by light temperature. you say that you are shooting inside and out. i'm sure that you will need a filter (81A i think) to shoot color daylight film inside unless you want a green cast to the photos.
also, fuji npc is a great film that I used in a studio setting many times. but for the kids, you might want to go for nps or nph. i would shoot the color film at box speed unless you are going for saturation.
